22. RARE PAIR OF GILT-BRONZE DRAGON FORM HOOKS
Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD)
12 3/4” (32.5cm) long

The vertical elongated animals are cast in vertical crouching position, one with a slot for mounting. These are highly unusual; their hooked end tails suggest they were made for the purpose of suspension rather than as mounts.

The other unusual feature of these animals is their differentiation from other horned dragons of the period, with their paw-like feet and long feline bodies being more akin to chilong, rather than the ferocious beasts such as the pair of finials (no. 18) in this catalogue.
