19. WHITE-GLAZED HUO WARE PENTAFOIL STEMCUP
|
Rising from a low, flaring foot, the thinly potted and pleasing floral shape of the cup is a move away from the silver-influenced style in Tang ceramics, and is a transition between that earlier and the later Song aesthetic. The glaze is of an even pure white tone with little impurities. A Northern Song Yingqing stemcup of similar floral shape but with a lower and wider foot ring is published in Chinese White Porcelain: Northern Qi - Ming, Yongle, Uragami Sokyu-Do Co, Ltd., Tokyo, November 1991, exhibition catalogue no. 121.
